Goals:
Expose students to regulatory medicine and slaughter inspection at the state level, while reinforcing the responsibilities of accredited veterinarians in maintaining the health and welfare of livestock and domestic animals.

Negotiable (standard is 2-3 weeks)
The Program:
Students will spend their time either at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food offices in Taylorsville, UT or on the road accompanying department veterinarians or program managers on various field visits. Time will be divided between 3 core segments of regulatory practice:
- Regulatory Medicine
- Meat Inspection
- Disaster Preparedness
Students will learn based on shadowing, self-directed study, and completion of a project pertaining to regulatory medicine in Utah.
In addition, students may have the opportunity to shadow auxiliary species regulatory professionals (schedule dependent), including:
- Aquaculture
- Domestic elk
- Horse racing
- Apiary
- UDAF Laboratory
- Utah Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory
