Commercial Pesticide Business License
Pesticide businesses are an industry regulated by state and federal laws. When in a regulated industry, expect to be regulated.
State Law requires a Commercial Pesticide Business License of any business that commercially applies pesticides of any kind in any amounts. This includes even simple jobs like spot treatment of weeds after mowing a lawn or spreading a granulated weed and feed or a pre-emergent.
Herbicides are pesticides. “Pesticide” does not mean “insecticide”.
Licensing Requirements for Utah Pesticide Businesses
If you own, manage, or plan to launch a pesticide business in Utah, you must strictly comply with the following mandatory state regulations:
- Secure a Business License: You must first obtain a valid Commercial Pesticide Business License.
- Meet Applicator Standards: You must either hold a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License yourself or employ a fully licensed applicator.
- Verify Every Application: All pesticide treatments must be performed by a licensed Commercial Pesticide Applicator.
- Observe Permit Limits: Employees holding the new Ornamental and Turf Technician Permit may only perform strictly limited, specific applications.
- Know the Law: You are legally responsible for reading, understanding, and following all state pesticide regulations.
