Utah Food Systems Study Action Committee

What is the Utah Food Systems Study Action Committee?

Utah House Bill 510 (2025) commissioned a study to better understand the current realities, challenges, and opportunities facing Utah agriculture and our local food system.

Now that the final study report has been published, we have established the action committee to invite those involved in food systems work in Utah to execute the strategies identified.

Who can participate?

Anyone with relevant experience in or knowledge of the topic. Examples include representatives from agriculture, food businesses, nonprofits, institutions, and other food systems partners across the state.

You do not need to commit to attending all the meetings or even a certain number of them. Please join as your time and interest allow. We do ask that everyone who joins be willing to commit to action items. Those actions can be small but this is not a discussion group.

What are our current priorities?

We are currently focused on two broad action categories: supply chain improvements and agricultural land protection.

Supply Chain Improvements

Programming Strategy #1 (Utah Food Systems Study, page 41)

Strengthen statewide market development, business support, and supply chain coordination to better connect producers, buyers, processors, investors, and local governments while improving UDAF’s capacity to align supply, market demand, financing, and technical assistance across Utah’s agricultural supply chains.

Programming Strategy #4 (Utah Food Systems Study, page 44)

Develop a strategic investment framework for supply chain infrastructure.

Agricultural Land Protection

Programming Strategy #7 (Utah Food Systems Study page 47)

Expand access to agricultural land protection and succession planning tools by increasing awareness, coordination with partners, and clearer guidance around agricultural protection areas, conservation easements, and succession planning resources.

When do we meet?

Meetings are currently held on the third Wednesday of each month at 12 pm Mountain Time. Months alternate between our two topics.
