(Salt Lake City) – Two Utah’s Own member food companies have been invited to join the growing list of local farm and food products on the shelves of local and regional Whole Foods Grocery stores.

The announcement was made by the Whole Foods regional team from Denver last week at the Meet the Maker event hosted by Utah’s Own at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food building in Salt Lake City. Salsitas Mendoza products will be carried in the four Utah stores and Trail Truffles will be featured in stores throughout the Rocky Mountain Region.

The announcement provided a festive atmosphere for the networking event which was designed to let the grocery store chain’s regional and local store product teams meet company leaders with products already in their stores.  In all, 25 companies with products in Whole foods and six companies working toward selling to them were at the event.

“Whole Foods is making a big effort to seek out local produce, meat and other farm products, as well as more locally made food products,” said Laurie Seron, Utah’s own Program Manager, Utah Department of Agriculture and Food.

“They are really trying to improve relationships with existing suppliers, while working to develop new relationships with Utah farms and companies.”

The Meet the Maker event was developed after a meeting in late 2018 with Utah’s Own. Utah’s Own and Whole Foods wanted to work on ways to get more Utah products in their stores. The next event will focus on farms and getting more seasonal produce and other farm products into grocery stores.
