Scrapie

Scrapie is caused by an abnormally shaped protein called a prion. Genetic testing can determine how likely your sheep is to get scrapie if it is exposed to a prion. This testing looks at 2 locations on one gene, called Codon 136 and 171. 

Testing, tagging, and selective breeding have almost eliminated scrapie from the United States!
