Offers 10 Ways to Prevent the Introduction of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in
the U.S.
- Do not visit farms
in FMD infected countries within 5 days of travel to the U.S.
- Do not bring food
home from FMD infected countries.
- Do not mail/ship
food home from FMD infected countries.
- When returning
from a foreign country, accurately complete the U.S. Customs questionnaire.
- Report any known
food/livestock products entering the U.S. from a FMD infected country.
- Exclude international
visitors from your farm for at least five days after their arrival in
the U.S.
- Isolate new livestock
for 21 - 30 days before introducing them to your herd.
- Regularly inspect
livestock herds for signs of disease.
- Report any suspicious
animal health irregularities to the Utah Department of Agriculture and
Food or USDA.
- Report any food
