Pesticide
Disposal Sign Up Underway For Central Utah
Central Utah Farmers
and Ranchers can dispose of unused or outdated pesticides during the Utah
Department of Agriculture and Food's 1998 pesticide collection program.
The popular program is intended to help protect the environment and offer
a free service to farmers and ranchers.
Those interested
are required to sign up in advance for the service. Pre-registration runs
through October 30th. Collection is set for November 10th at the Santaquin
Department of Transportation sheds.
"This is a great
opportunity for farmers to dispose of those containers of pesticide that
have accumulated over the years,' said Dick Wilson, director of Plant
Industry for the UDAF. "We are into our 6th year of this program, and
have helped several hundred Utah farmers and ranchers," Wilson added.
This year the collection
program will focus on Utah, Wasatch, Summit, Juab, Sanpete, and Salt Lake
counties. Any farmer or rancher in those counties with eligible pesticide
products can bring them to the collection point. To sign up for the program,
contact Clair Allen at the UDAF Division of Plant Industry (801) 538-7187,
or the local field representative at (801) 370-8493.
