USU
Honors State Veterinarian with Distinguished Service Award
Utah State University's
College of Agriculture recently presented Dr. Michael R. Marshall with
the 1998 Distinguished Service Award, one of the college's top honors.
Dr. Marshall was
praised for his devotion and professionalism to the animal health industry.
The university pointed
out that when USU desperately needed a new veterinary diagnostic laboratory,
Dr. Marshall took on the responsibility of obtaining the funding. He also
helped plan the new laboratory building, now one of the most modern, functional
diagnostic labs in the country.
As State Veterinarian,
he develops animal health programs that will control or eradicate livestock,
poultry and pet diseases within the state. Careful attention is given
to those diseases that are transmissible to humans. He is responsible
for animal health, the serology laboratory, meat inspection and brand
inspection. He makes health and animal movement decisions for a $450 million
livestock industry.
In addition, he is
technical advisor for at least three research projects at USU and maintains
a close working relationship with USU. His support of the Animal Dairy
and Veterinary Sciences Department and to Utah State University has been
invaluable.
