SAN JUAN COUNTY ELIGIBLE
FOR USDA EMERGENCY LOANS
On July 2, 1998,
President Clinton designated the State of New Mexico eligible for Farm
Service Agency emergency loans due to physical and production losses.
These losses were a result of extreme fire hazards which occurred from
June 29 through October 15, 1998.
Therefore, San Juan
County was also named as it is contiguous to New Mexico.
Farmers and Ranchers
in San Juan County can apply for an emergency loan to cover part of their
actual losses and must apply by March 2, 1999. To be eligible, producers
must have suffered a 30% loss of normal production, be able to repay the
loan and other existing debt, be unable to get credit elsewhere, have
adequate security, and must have obtained multi-peril crop insurance or
have signed an insurance waiver.
Applications can
be picked up at the Monticello Farm Service Agency Office, at 32 S. 100
E., Monticello, UT, 84535, (435) 587-2473.
