- USDA and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have learned that byproducts from pet food manufactured with contaminated wheat gluten imported from China have been used in chicken feed on some farms in the state of Indiana.
- UDAF, USDA, and FDA are cooperating in the disposal of approximately 2500 hogs that consumed feed that was adulterated with melamine or other contaminants.
- UDAF is working to verify whether three Utah hog farms fed their animals feed containing contaminated rice protein concentrate and corn gluten imported from China that contained melamine.

Payson, Utah returned negative results.
- UDAF has issued a notice of investigation to a Payson dairy,
asking it to voluntarily stop selling any raw dairy product to the public. The action comes after the Utah County Health
Dept. issued a health advisory regarding a Campylobacter outbreak in the county that has been linked to the dairy.
- Grants Available to Increase Vegetable Production UDAF is encouraging Utah farmers to apply for grants
to help them grow more vegetables in Utah. Application Form
- A serious Japanese Beetle infestation has been discovered in three Orem neighborhoods, and a series of public meetings are scheduled to offer residents background information on the insect and how to coordinate an eradication effort.
- A new guidebook recently released by UDAF will help watershed managers and other water education professionals improve the state’s natural resources by urging citizens to adopt more natural resource-friendly practices.
- The Utah Senate and House of Representatives offered recognition to the Department of the Interior’s proposed funding for the Healthy Lands Initiative that focuses on improving Utah’s watersheds and rangelands.
- UDAF has received a consumer complaint that certain Utah grocery stores have improperly offered perishable foods for resale after the product was returned to the store by a consumer. Under Chapter 4-3 of the Utah Food Code, such a practice is illegal.
- UDAF is encouraging Utah farmers and other stakeholders to apply for grants to assist specialty crop production. Applications must be postmarked by February 28, 2007.
