UDAF Supports Rancher Call for Hay Donations
Hay to Aid Wildfire Victims
Salt Lake City -- Cache County rancher Joe Fuhriman is donating one ton of hay to central Utah ranchers who lost the grass on their grazing lands to the Milford Flat Fire, and is challenging other ranchers statewide to make donations as well. His goal is to get 100 tons of hay that could be trucked to the fire area by the end of September. So far Fuhriman has received pledges of 30 tons of hay.
According to a Utah Department of Agriculture and Food survey of ranchers impacted by fires this year, 78 ranchers suffered losses, or had their cattle impacted. An estimated 38,500 tons of hay is needed to replace the grasses burned by the fire, which is described as Utah’s largest fire ever recorded.
To make a hay donation contact Joe Fuhriman at (435) 770-0099.
If making a hay donation, plan to deliver it to either the Smithfield Livestock Auction, at 711 South 100 West in Smithfield or the USU Caine Dairy on highway 91 in Wellsville, Utah on September 19th or 20th. The hay will be loaded later onto semi trucks for delivery to Beaver County for distribution to ranchers in need.
