UDAF Food Inspectors Find Inconsistent
Compliance With Botulism Recall
Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) compliance officers have conducted statewide effectiveness checks relating to the Castleberry botulism food recall, finding a number of recalled items remaining in commerce. UDAF inspectors are working with food distributors, retailers and the public to locate and remove all suspect products.
“We believe that due to the scope of the recall that some of the product may still be in the distribution system, “said Richard Clark, Regulatory Services Division Director. We are working hard to assure that all of the products have been recalled, and that includes products in long term storage.”
Many of the food items in question were produced between April 30 and May 22, 2007 and distributed to retail stores in Utah and 22 other states.
In light of the possibility that Utah consumers may have purchased recalled products, and may have them in long term food storage pantries, the UDAF is advising consumers to double check the recalled product identification codes and remove and dispose of these items immediately.
