Pesticide Applicator Licensing ExamsBackgroundA person can pick up study materials at the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food/PlantIndustry in Salt Lake City or at any UDAF District Field Office. A minimum of two books are suggested: National Pesticide Applicator Certification Core Manual, and a category manual for each of those categories in which you wish to be certified.When you are ready to take the written tests, make an appointment at the field office where you intend to take the tests. Test days may differ in the various field offices. The compliance specialist or examiner from whom you received the study material will inform you what day tests are given. Scratch paper, calculator and pencils will be furnished. You should allow yourself two (2) hours to take the tests. Afer passing the required tests, the compliance specialist or examiner will issue you a temporary license that is good for 30 days. A permanent license will be mailed within 30 days to your home or business from the Salt Lake office.
CostThere is an examination and educational materials (EEM) fee of $20.00 for all applicators. A commercial applicator is required to pay a $15.00 annual or $45.00 triennial license fee before taking any tests, in addition to the EEM fee. All other applicators are exempt from the license fee. A check is preferable and should be made out to the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF). Cash, Master Card or Visa may be used at the Salt Lake City location, or by telephone at 801-538-7185. A $15.00 fee will be charged for any replacement license, including reprints for a change of address, adding a category (or categories), or similar request.
