UDAF Pesticide Education Program Helps
Salt Lake City School District Win International Award
The Salt Lake City School District was recognized for its efforts to increase
pesticide safety at the 6th International IPM (Integrated Pesticide Management)
Symposium in Portland, Oregon March 24th.
The school district was among five organizations receiving the International
IPM Excellence Award. The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food’s (UDAF)
Division of Plant Industry works closely with the school district to improve pesticide
safety education. The school district and the UDAF work to reduce potential
human health risks, and minimize adverse environmental effects.
“The goal of the Dept.'s IPM in School program is to reduce the use of pesticides
in schools and also reduce pest populations,” said Clark Burgess, UDAF Pesticide
Program Manager. Clark added, this can be accomplished by educating faculty,
students and parents on Integrated Pest Management principles.
