Dr. Bruce King Elected to USAHA Board
UDAF State Veterinarian, Dr. Bruce King, was elected third vice president of the United States Animal Health Association (USAHA). The election means Dr. King will eventually become president and host the prestigious organization’s annual meeting in 2015 in Utah.
The United States Animal Health Association (USAHA), the nation's animal health forum for over a century, is a science-based, non-profit, voluntary organization. Its 1,400 members are state, federal and tribal animal health officials, national allied organizations, regional representatives, and individual members. USAHA works with state and federal governments, universities, veterinarians, livestock producers, national livestock and poultry organizations, research scientists, the extension service and seven foreign countries to control livestock diseases in the United States. USAHA represents all 50 states, 4 foreign countries and 34 allied groups serving health, technical and consumer markets. USAHA's mission is to protect animal and public health
“I am honored to have been elected to the USAHA’s board,” said King. “My goal during the coming years is identify and solve animal health issues that are challenging western ranchers,” he said. Dr. King also hopes that the debate over animal welfare issues is based on science not emotion. He says the stakes are very high. Animal agriculture is an excellent source of protein for consumers and is needed to help maintain a healthy diet. He also recognizes that the livestock industry is a major component in the economies of rural America.
