Governer Herbert's Four Cornerstones

Roadmap to Recovery & Return to Prosperity
Governor Gary R. Herbert

“My vision for Utah is that we will lead the nation as the best performing economy and be recognized as a premier global business destination.”
“Education, energy development, job creation, and self-determination are at the heart of what has made America great. And they are the four cornerstones of Utah's strength.”
“The four cornerstones I have outlined are straightforward. But none are easy. All will require strength and discipline, adherence to principles of frugality and common sense, and a spirit of collaboration, partnership and leadership. We are Utahns and we are up to the challenge.”

How Utah agriculture follows this roadmap

Education: The UDAF has launched www.agriadvocates.org to inform Utahns about the importance of agriculture in their lives. We also offer major support to Utah's Agriculture-in-the-Classroom Program.

Energy:  Utah Agriculture provides a renewable resource that contributes to our energy needs

Job Creation: Utah Agriculture contributes 66,500 jobs (USU study) to the state's workforce, both directly and indirectly.   Those jobs held up "quite well" during the recent recession while other sectors took big hits says Jim Robson, economist with the Utah Department of Workforce Services.

Self determination: A recent survey of Wasatch Front residents conducted for the UDAF by Richter 7 communications determined that Utahns are most concerned about being "self-sufficient" with regards to their food supply.  Promoting and protecting Utah agriculture contributes to our state's self determination.
