UDAF Brand Inspector Honored for Heroism
Commissioner Leonard M. Blackham honored Ogden Brand Inspector, Troy Higgs, for heroic acts of courage in helping save the lives of two children involved in an automobile accident December 5, 2008 in Box Elder County. Higgs was first on the scene of a head-on collision in Sardine Canyon involving five people in one car and one person in the other. Higgs acted quickly to put out a vehicle fire, break out a window and pull two children to safety.
"Troy demonstrated courage, leadership and compassion as he rescued the two victims and offered aid during this tragic event," said Commissioner Blackham. "Troy sets an example that all State of Utah employees can be proud of."
Higgs is a veteran Utah Department of Agriculture and Food Brand Inspector with several years of law enforcement training. He says he called on his Department training during the rescue.
Commissioner Blackham and Animal Industry Director, Terry Menlove, awarded Higgs a Certificate of Appreciation while congratulating him for his exemplary actions.
