State Veterinarian, Earl Rogers, Selected Veterinarian of the Year
State Veterinarian, Earl Rogers, DVM, was awarded the Veterinarian of the Year by the Utah Veterinary Medical Association (UVMA) meeting in Moab, Utah. The UVMA is an organization comprised of more than 200 large and small animal veterinarians in Utah. Once a year the UVMA selects a veterinarian who has contributed to the practice of veterinary medicine and to the community.
Dr. Rogers was cited for his outstanding example of a veterinarian dedicated to the profession, to the community and to his family. Dr. Rogers has recently coordinated projects to strengthen the State's ability to respond to an animal disease emergency by offering training and improving lines of communication between county emergency responders, local veterinarians and the State of Utah. He is also responsible for improvements to the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food's meat inspection program that has resulted in high praise from U.S. Department of Agriculture inspection teams.
"This is an unexpected honor, and I'm humbled by the award," said Dr. Rogers. "Those who have received this award previously have set a high standard. I hope to live up to that standard," he added.
Dr. Rogers has been a veterinarian in the Division of Animal Industry for 18 years. Prior to that he spent 20 years in private practice as a large animal veterinarian in Weber County.
