(Salt Lake City)– Utah Agriculture and Food Commissioner, LuAnn Adams, issued the following statement today regarding the agreement in principle reached by U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Republic of Korea Minister for Trade Hyun Chong Kim regarding modifications to the U.S.-Republic of Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS):

“I applaud Ambassador Lighthizer and the U.S. trade office for working with the Republic of Korea to modernize KORUS. I am especially encouraged by their commitment to protect the strong agricultural components that were built into the original pact. KORUS has been good to Utah’s agriculture industry. South Korea has long been an important trading partner for agriculture and currently ranks as Utah’s top export destination for agriculture and food products. In 2017, we exported over $100 million dollars’ worth of Utah agriculture and food products to South Korea. The agreement in principle will bring many more years of growth and prosperity for Utah’s agricultural trade with South Korea.”
