Utah-Raised Turkey to Earn Governor’s Pardon


 WHAT: The annual Utah turkey pardon and Thanksgiving seasonal message by Governor Gary R. Herbert will feature a 40 – 50 pound Tom turkey.  The turkey is being named via a social media contest (@Norbest_turkey) with the winner earning a Norbest gift certificate.  The bird will be moved to the Thanksgiving Point bird refuge where it will live out its days, sans cranberry sauce.

WHERE: Utah State Capitol Plaza between the East Senate Bldg. and State Office Bldg.
(If weather is an issue: Inside Capitol Bldg., ground floor, Hall of Governors)    

WHEN:  Noon, Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017

WHY: The turkey pardon recognizes the importance of Utah agriculture, and its turkey industry, as we celebrate Thanksgiving and the bounty of safe and nutritious food produced by Utah’s 18,000 farmers and ranchers.
