During National Farmers Market Week Aug. 3 - 9

 Farmers and farmers market managers will celebrate National Farmers Market Week Sunday at Wheeler Historic Farm.
Utah farmers markets are enjoying the benefits of a strong consumer attitude about foods grown and raised locally.  This year’s National Farmers Market Week (Aug. 3 – 9) will celebrate the availability of an abundance of high quality fruits, vegetables, meats and grains offered at Utah’s 45 farmers markets.  
 According to the USDA, Utahns spent nearly $16 million in 2012 (up 58% since 2007) in direct sales to Utah farmers and ranchers who sell directly to the public.  Utah has more than 1,800 farms and ranches that sell directly to consumers.
 Utah Commissioner of Agriculture and Food, LuAnn Adams, will join a farmers market manager, a Utah’s Own farmers market vendor and a Utah’s Own food producer to discuss the importance of farmers markets in Utah.

More than 130 food and product vendors will have products on display and be interacting with the thousands of shoppers from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 
Commissioner Adams will visit the 37 Utah’s Own vendors and the other vendors at the farmers market.
