West Nile Virus Horse Case Reported

There have been two additional West Nile Virus cases confirmed in horses this week.  One case is near Snowville in Box Elder County and the other is near Ivins in Washington County.  Neither horse was vaccinated and both horses are currently under treatment.

This brings the total confirmed cases in horses to 6 so far this year.

Utah has four confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in horses. Three of horses were stabled in Washington County and all were unvaccinated. A fourth horse was stabled in Juab County and its vaccination history was unknown

Horse owners are reminded of the importance of vaccinations for the prevention of this disease. This is the time of the year most cases of this disease are reported to the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food, State Veterinarian, (801) 538-7162.

WNV is a reportable disease to the State Veterinarian's Office.

Please consider vaccinating your animals as a means to prevent the spread of the disease, and the loss of equine life.
