Low Pathogenic Avian Influenza Confirmed in Idaho

Utah Bird Owners Advised to Increase Health Safety Measures

The Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) Bureau of Animal Industries has received confirmation from NVSL of a backyard flock in western Idaho that has upland game birds, with one sample positive for H5N2 LPAI. There are no clinical signs of avian influenza in the flock.

The flock is an NPIP participant and routine surveillance identified one duck as positive for H5N2 LPAI of North American wild bird lineage.

The ISDA has quarantined the premises and initiated its avian influenza response plan in conjunction with USDA APHIS Veterinary Services (VS). The plan includes epidemiological investigations, further testing of the flock and contacting neighboring flock owners.

The ISDA will notify any states that may have received birds from this premises and will keep the National Assembly updated on our investigation.

See more here on how to protect your backyard flocks.

Report sick birds to your local veterinarian or our state veterinarian.  (801) 538-7162.
