UDAF Gardening Tips
Spring is here it’s time to start thinking about the garden. One decision that needs to be made right away is whether to buy plants started by someone else or to start your own plants from seeds.
Vegetable gardeners can and should start several varieties indoors a few weeks before they can be planted outside. Broccoli is a cold hardy plant that can go outdoors in early Spring. You can start your seeds 4-6 weeks before planting outside, probably in mid-to late February. Most varieties that you start inside, such as tomatoes, peppers and squash will need anywhere from 4-8 weeks head start before going in the garden. The link below from USU Extension has a list of the average last frost date for several Wasatch Front communities, as well as a list of vegetables and when they should be planted in relation to the last frost.
